YouTube’s latest offerings extend to publishers’ own subscription businesses by working on a new option which would enable publishers to more directly add paying subscribers to their publications via their YouTube channels.
As reported by Digiday:
“YouTube is developing a tool for news publishers to sell subscriptions to their owned-and-operated digital properties through their YouTube channels, according to publishers that have been briefed on the matter. YouTube has told publishers as recently as April that it plans to begin testing the subscription sales tool by the end of this year.”
As the report says YouTube is working on a method by which the current audience can subscribe to the publisher’s channel for videos restricted on paid mode. Publishers expect that YouTube will share the subscription details with email details so that they can directly connect with the viewers for direct marketing and enhanced customer engagement.
