When and why should authors be allowed to modify published articles?
WordPress comes with a powerful user role and permission system that allows admin to add new authors and users to the website. If a multi-author or membership website is being run in WordPress, then allowing contributors to make changes in published articles can be a goal.
WordPress allows admin to let contributors edit the articles they post and update them without having to get approval from the editor or administrator. However, it is not recommended to provide such permissions to contributors. Administrators should review articles and post changes, so editorial quality always meets standards.
Revise Published WordPress Articles
Fortunately, there is a solution that allows contributors to make changes and submit them for editorial review. Once approved, the editor can easily incorporate changes into the live article. Give permission to revise published article
The first thing you need to do is install and activate the Revision Manager plugin. After initiation, call the Settings »Revision Manager TMC folio in the WordPress management area.
In the general settings, select edit_posts in the “Copy Creation Function” drop-down list and select published_posts in the “Accept Function” drop-down list. This will allow users with the contributor user role to create copies of published articles.
The notification role should be assigned to the administrator or editor, who will review the changes and publish the post.
After adding features, scroll down and select the type of article to allow the author to submit revisions.
Next, edit the notification settings to receive notifications when contributors submit revised notifications. choose a template and customize it to meet your requirements.
When finished, click the “Update Settings” button to store the changes. Now having complete the revision settings, log in from the contributor account in WordPress. After logging in, visit the Articles »All Articles page and move the mouse to any published articles. Notice the “Create revision draft” option below each article.
Tip: You can switch between user accounts immediately when testing the revised settings.
Once the contributor clicks the link to create a revised draft, the plugin will create a duplicate version of the published post and open it for editing. The author can modify the article, make changes, and submit it for review.
After submission, the administrator will receive a notification to review and publish the article. Now switch to the admin account in WordPress and go to the article »all articles page. Here, the duplicate post will be seen with a message that the revision is waiting to be accepted.
Click on the article published by this revision and review the changes. After viewing, click the “Publish” button. After publishing, it will overwrite the original article content and automatically delete duplicate revised articles. In this way, you will be able to revise published WordPress articles/blogs easily.
