As reported in the WhatsApp blog, it has now officially announced the launch of its new, 8-person, encrypted video chat option, doubling the number of participants you can have on a WhatsApp video or voice call from 4 to 8 people at a time.
To access the new chat option of higher participant limit on WhatsApp calls, all participants in a call should have the latest version of WhatsApp available on iPhone or Android today. Users are required to update WhatsApp to try it out.
As the blog says, people on average are spending over 15 billion minutes on video calls using WhatsApp calls, well above a typical day before the pandemic. They claim all these video calls are protected with end-to-end encryption. Irrespective of lower-end devices and slow network conditions, the new WhatsApp group call facility with the new user limits will be available for as many users as possible.
