Now creators on YouTube can take advantage of the auto-generated ‘Smart Replies’ which provide quick response options based on machine learning to make it easier to engage with their communities efficiently.
The mechanism of smart reply works by learning the viewer’s comment and reply representation through a computationally efficient dilated self-attention network, and represents the first cross-lingual and character byte-based SmartReply model, Google explains.
The comments submitted under the YouTube videos will be scanned by the ‘Smart Replies’ and then provide suggested quick replies to each of the comments, which the YouTuber can tweak in one tap. It is really interesting to understand that ‘Smart Replies’ will analyze the creator’s responses over time, in order to provide the best-suggested replies as options making it in tune with the conversational style and tone of the creator.
By providing such new reply options, Google’s engineering team will be overcoming the challenges of assimilating the complex patterns of language switching, abbreviated words, slang, inconsistent usage of punctuation, and heavy utilization of emojis used in the comments submitted by users.
YouTube’s ‘SmartReply’ will be starting with English and Spanish langauges. Since YouTube is a global product with a diverse user base that generates mixed types of content, the platform will be continuously improving the comments for its global audience, and SmartReply represents a strong step in this direction, as noted by Google.
