Facebook is reportedly building a new version of its standalone Oculus Quest headset potentially set to be smaller, lighter, and with a faster refresh rate than the original, but the device is facing potential delays due to the impact of Covid-19 on product development and the global supply chain, as per a report from Bloomberg.
Facebook has got No. 2 seller of VR (Virtual Reality) headsets in the year 2019 with about 28% of shipments, trailing Sony Corp., as per data compiled by Statista. Virtual reality headsets were used entirely for watching movies and sports and playing games where the augmented reality meshes the real world with virtual images.
For the new Quest device, Facebook is reported to be testing the replacement of the fabric from the sides with more plastic like the current Oculus Rift S including the material replacement used in the straps making it more elastic than the rubber and velcro currently used.
