Instagram Rolls Out a New Way to Raise Money For a Personal Cause and Small Businesses During COVID-19

Instagram rolled out a fundraising feature to get donations for a personal cause and small businesses.

They lanched small tests in the US, UK, and Ireland on Android, followed by iOS. Everyone living in those countries is eligible to donate to a Personal Fundraiser on Android starting today.

As there was a sudden surge in the fundraising activities for various causes during the past few months, Instagram is making it easier to create fundraisers directly on Instagram.

How to create a personal fundraiser on Instagram?

  • Navigate to your Instagram profile and tap “Edit Profile”
  • Tap “Add Fundraiser” and then “Raise Money”
  • You can then choose a photo, and select the fundraiser category such as as”crisis relief’, ‘faith’, ‘hobbies’ and even ‘pets and animals’
  • Add details to help tell your story and encourage others to donate
  • Enter your information for Stripe, Facebook’s payment processor for donations
  • You can then tap “Send” and your fundraiser will be reviewed by Instagram/Facebook

Instagram will review all fundraisers to ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria. Once approved, individuals can start fundraising.

All people must be at least 18 years old to create a fundraiser and the fundraiser lasts 30 days. It can be extended more than once for 30 more days.
