Knowing the most popular social media and messaging platforms will help businesses plan their marketing strategy to fuel their growth. Statista presents an infographic that compares the top 15 social media platforms, based on audience size.
Here are the top five from their list:
- YouTube
- Messenger
Facebook that owns four of the world’s largest social media/messaging services is leading the chart and used by almost 2.5 billion people per month.
YouTube takes second top position and WhatsApp goes to third place with both of them having about 2 billion monthly users while Facebook Messenger surpassed one billion-user mark.
According to company data aggregated by DataReportal, Tencent, the Chinese company behind WeChat, Qzone, and messenger QQ is also used by almost 2.5 billion users in total, but it is still not able to reach Facebook’s global footprint.
At the same time when they boast of the million user traffic, these social media platforms have the potential to target specific groups based on likes, dislikes, and past behavior.
It’s not surprising that global social media advertising revenue is expected to surpass $98 billion in 2020.
