According to Twitter, Android users who did not read an article won’t be able to share it due to the newly released feature. This feature would probably be working by tracking the user clicks to ensure that those who retweet will read it.
The new feature is regarded as part of Twitter’s stated goal to encourage “informed discussion to prevent retweeting the links without actually reading it.
Twitter’s announcement on sharing links without reading:
“Sharing an article can spark conversation, so you may want to read it before you Tweet it. To help promote informed discussion, we’re testing a new prompt on Android –– when you Retweet an article that you haven’t opened on Twitter, we may ask if you’d like to open it first.”
Twitter followed up with a tweet that clarified that the goal was to “improve the health” of the discussion just as it begins:
We wanted to test a way to improve the health of a conversation as it gets started. And to see if reminding people to read an article before they share it leads to more informed discussion.
